NEW FEATURE: ADDRESS VERIFICATION IN THE TURBOVOTE SIGN-UP FLOW

Mailing addresses are far more complicated than one might think. In fact, people often make mistakes when entering their address into a form on the internet which is why most established websites offer ways to ease and verify addresses on submission.

In order to make it easier for users to enter the most accurate address possible, we’re introducing a new step in the TurboVote sign-up flow that checks a user’s voter registration address against a nationwide dataset furnished by SmartyStreets (a best-in-class USPS and non-postal address validation service).

If a more accurate address is found, the user is provided with two options to select: the suggested address or the one they entered.

Of course, there are always cases when our data source presents an address that the user knows is incorrect (e.g. fractional house numbers like ½ Colombia Street are often problematic), so users always have the option of using the address they entered originally.

Address verification isn’t shown to a user who selects a pre-entered campus address.

We’re excited to see how users interact with this new experience and ready to tweak it to ensure we’re meeting our goal to make signing up for TurboVote an even more straightforward process.
