Your Official Election Information, Delivered
Democracy Works powers tools that share official election information quickly and consistently, helping voters learn how, when, and where to vote. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, we are dedicated to providing accurate information to voters across the country.
About the Voting Information Project
Central to our work with election officials is the Voting Information Project (VIP), an initiative that makes voting locations, ballot drop-off locations, ballot details, and other official election information available on a range of online platforms. Created in 2008 by state and local election officials, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and Google—and operated by Democracy Works since 2018—VIP currently partners with more than 40 states and D.C. to provide and review this information, before it is published via the Google Civic Information API.

Voting Information Tool
The Voting Information Tool brings election information directly to your website in an easy, voter-friendly format. Election offices and other organizations can embed it to give voters instant access to voting locations and more. Twelve states incorporated the Voting Information Tool into their information distribution strategies in 2024.
Ballot Scout
Ballot Scout helps election officials offer transparent, reliable tracking for mail ballots. Using USPS barcode data, Ballot Scout provides status updates on each ballot’s journey, helping reduce inbound inquiries and increasing trust in the process. It gives election offices a clear, accessible way to support voters who cast ballots by mail.

Elections API and TurboVote
Our Elections API offers comprehensive election information and voting guidance for a variety of applications. The API also powers our voter engagement tool, TurboVote, which helps millions of Americans register to vote, receive election reminders, and more.
Our dedication to accuracy is at the core of this work. Our in-house Research Team documents and verifies information about thousands of federal, state, and local elections each year, relying solely on authoritative government sources, such as state and local election offices, state legislation, and local code.
We also work with state election offices to review this information for elections at the state level and above. Election administrators’ expertise adds an additional layer of quality assurance to our research. Their feedback helps ensure that our information aligns with official guidance.
